Acting two

George is acting his age these days, and then some.

He has figured out if he stands on things, he gets taller. Today I gave him a spiral notebook to color in and when he was done, he tried to put it up on our counter top. He's not tall enough yet to reach the counter top (thankfully, since that's where we keep all the things we want nearby but out of reach), but he was awful close to being able to get the notebook back up there by standing on his tippy toes and swinging his arms up high above his head. When that didn't accomplish what he wanted, he went to his toy pile, selected a tractor and set the tractor under the counter. Then he tried to stand on it to make himself tall enough to reach the counter top.

I tried to get him to nap today but he wasn't having any part of it. At one point I went in to investigate noises and found him sitting next to the toy cradle trying to dress himself in the clothes he'd removed from my old Cabbage Patch dolls. At that point I gave him a reprieve and let him come back out into the living room to play with me for a half hour. Then we tried nap again, since he was acting so tired.

I went to check on him about twenty minutes later and got quite the surprise. He had taken a package of diapers and set them in front of his dresser so that he could climb up and get things off the top of the dresser. He had managed to grab a container of Vaseline off the top of the dresser and opened the lid. He had his fingers in it and was eating it. He is very particular though and must not have liked the messy texture because when he saw me he turned on his most angelic face and requested "Spoon?" I grabbed the container away from him, did a finger sweep in his mouth to see if there was any Vaseline in there that I could remove, and then tried to estimate how much he had eaten and assess the mess. While I was doing that, George ran out of his room and into the bathroom. He opened the under sink cabinets, grabbed a roll of paper towels and headed into the living room. He pulled the towels off the roll leaving a trail behind him, and then used the empty cardboard tube as a trumpet. All of this occurred in the span of about 90 seconds.

I'll leave you with a picture from nap time this weekend. He went to bed with denim shorts on. When I went to check on him, he'd removed the denim shorts and put on some blue pants that he found in the dirty clothes. If you look closely, you can also see that he has removed his socks, turned them inside out and then put them back on again. He was busy before he conked out!
